Im Durchschnitt werden pro Tier ca. 1 bis 1,5 kg Rohwolle gewonnen. Davon entfallen ca. 400 bis 800 g auf das Unterhaar. Nach der Wäsche und Sortierung bleiben davon nicht mehr als 100 bis 200 g pro Tier und Jahr als Netto-Haarertrag einer Cashmere-Ziege. So werden bei den geschätzten rund 40 Mio. Ziegen ca. 4000 bis 5000 Tonnen Rohfasern, d.h. knapp 2500 Tonnen Netto-Haarertrag gewonnen.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eDies und die Tatsache, dass es sich bei Cashmere um das spezifisch leichteste, feinste, seltenste und damit wertvollste und edelste Haar handelt, das als Rohstoff für Textilien Verwendung findet, rechtfertigt den vergleichsweise hohen Preis. Das Haar hat einen seidigen Glanz, ist überaus weich und anschmiegsam und verfügt über ein sehr hohes Wärmerückhaltevermögen.
